TROMSØ · ARCTIC NORWAY
Aurora skies. Midnight sun fjords. The long Arctic year.
Northern lights chases, reindeer sledding with the Sami, whale safaris and fjord cruises from a city 350 km above the Arctic Circle. The full sky calendar, polar night to midnight sun.
Only in the Arctic
Three things you can’t do anywhere else.
Aurora chases, reindeer sledding with the Sami, killer whales in a fjord. Boat trips, day tours and city walks exist everywhere. These three are specific to the patch of Arctic Norway around Tromsø.
Under the sky
Aurora From The City
Tromsø sits right under the auroral oval — the latitude band where the northern lights appear most often. Only a handful of cities on earth are this far north AND this connected (international airport, harbour, restaurants, working tour fleet). The chase vans leave nightly from September to March, hunting clear sky across Lyngen, Kvaløya and Finland if needed.

With the Sami
Reindeer Sledding With The Sami
The Sami have herded reindeer across Sápmi (Arctic Norway, Sweden, Finland) for thousands of years. They still do. A few Sami families share the camp life with visitors — traditional lavvu tents, joik songs around the fire, reindeer-pulled sled rides through fresh snow. This combination doesn’t exist outside the Sami homeland.

In the fjords
Orcas & Humpbacks At Skjervøy
Each winter the herring move into the Norwegian fjords north of Tromsø, and orcas and humpback whales follow. Skjervøy, two hours up the coast, is one of the only places in Europe where you can reliably watch both species hunting in the same fjord. The hybrid-electric boats run silent so the pods don’t scatter.

What everyone comes for
Start with the headline experience.
If you’ve only got one Tromsø day, start here. The Arctic experience visitors keep choosing first.
The Arctic classics
Tromsø’s Most Popular Experiences
Aurora chases, reindeer days, fjord cruises and whale safaris. The half-dozen tours visitors book most often.
By season
When the sky does something.
Tromsø lives between two extremes — two months when the sun never rises, two when it never sets. Pick the window. Polar night for aurora and whales. Midnight sun for fjords and trails. Tap any tile for what’s bookable then.
By experience
Or pick how you want to spend the day.
Aurora chase if it’s the lights. Husky sled if it’s the snow. Whale safari for the orcas. Reindeer camp for the Sami half-day. Fjord cruise for the long view. Pick the thing, not the place.
For the camera
Aurora, on film.
Photographer-led chases with proper Arctic camera coaching, plus the portrait-included chase trips that hand you a printable shot of yourself under the lights. Three we’d send anyone who wants a keeper, not just a phone screenshot.
On the snow
The Arctic adventure day.
Husky sledding, snowmobile safaris over the Lyngen Alps, snowshoeing routes through old-growth birch forest. Three on-snow half-days we’d build a Tromsø trip around if the aurora wasn’t cooperating.
On the water
The fjord days.
Hybrid-electric cruises that run silent for the wildlife, sea-eagle stops, salmon picnics on Sommarøy, the long midnight-sun routes north. Three boat days that cover the full Tromsø coastline.
